Nutrisystem and Celebrity Marketing Not Working?

NutrisystemI was just reading an article in business week on how Nutrisystem was moving away from using celebrities in their marketing and going to customer testimonials.  “These are real people. We want them to inspire others,” says Chief Executive Officer Joe Redling about the several dozen customers featured in a series of commercials that began rolling out on Dec. 26.

I find that a bit confusing because now it seems most of the ads I see are with Janet Jackson and Marie Osmond endorsing Nutrisystem. I really do not watch a lot of television but I do pay attention to advertising for weight loss products like Nutrisysem and others. And maybe I missed some of the so called “real people” that their CEO mentioned.

According to the article, Nutrisystem sales fell by 4.1 percent while some of their competitors saw an increase and that is what prompted the change. I think that they are on the right track by using real people to get their message out. People will relate better to others who use Nutrisystem and are having success with it. I mean really, how many of us are leading a lifestyle of the rich and famous and can relate with celebrities.

It really does not matter who you relate with. As long as you have made up your own mind to achieve a weight loss goal and want to use Nutisystem, the bottom line is that it is still up to you. You can use the testimonials for support by seeing other everyday people having success. Use them to help motivate you.

Speaking of motivation, I saw this Marie Osmond video from back in 2009 and she had some great information that anybody that is looking to improve themselves should watch. What she said about making up your mind to start was very good. I think we all need to learn from that. No matter how you decide to loose weight, it all starts with making the decision to do it then sticking to it.

It will be interesting to see if Nutrisystem keeps putting out the celebrity advertisements or starts using more everyday customers. We will have to wait and see on that and whether it will help them increase their sales. One of their competitors, Weight Watchers is also using a lot of celebrities in their ads. But they increased their sales by 1.9 percent. It kind makes me wonder what the difference is. Maybe it could be the popularity of the particular person.

Whether it be Nutrisystem, Weight Watchers or one of the many others the choice is still up to you. And becoming healthier should be something we all strive for.

There are a lot of choices as to how to do it and the programs I mentioned here are just a couple of them. Just choose the one that is going to fit you the best. Take a close look at all of your options and once you decide on one, stick to it.

I wish you the best of success in your weight loss journey.

amen..I find is annoying to see the rich and famous pretending to have used a product that they obviously would never even consider using. People like Marie Osmond have personal trainers, cooks, plastic surgeries…etc…etc…and would never use a mass produced product. I feel the same about Cindy Crawford and her beauty products…total sham…she’s had surgeries and botox and every other miracle cure…and her youthful appearance has nothing to do with the products she hawks
